The Loop Road upgrade enhances traffic flow and safety at Whangārei’s southern entrance. Kauri Park Projects delivered the planting and soft landscaping package for the new roundabout, bridge approaches, and side road connection.

Ecosystem – softening new infrastructure

Species selection focused on hardy, eco-sourced natives suited to roadside conditions, anchored by specimen trees for height and structure. The roundabout received imported topsoil and full-site blow mulching to accelerate establishment and present a clean, uniform finish. Along the carriageway, a symmetrical Poa cita pattern provides rhythm and legibility at speed, tying the corridor together.

Planting was completed alongside live traffic and ongoing civil operations, requiring strict health and safety management. Daily site briefings and strong collaboration with Oxcon ensured works were delivered safely and efficiently, maintaining quality and consistency across the project.

The completed landscape softens the engineered environment and provides a natural, structured arrival experience into Whangārei.
